About
Who writes these guides, and why
What Farela is
Farela is software for registered dietitians in private practice in the United States who bill insurance. It records the session (a video visit in Farela, in person or by phone), drafts the structured MNT note from it, and builds the insurance claim from what was documented: the CPT code, units from the session time, ICD-10 codes, modifiers and place of service.
The dietitian reviews the claim and presses Submit. It goes out under her own NPI, through her own Claim.MD account. Farela can run eligibility checks through that account and shows what each payer paid once the remittance comes back.
The EHR is free: charting, clients, scheduling, session recording and AI notes, with no monthly fee. Billing costs 3.9% of what an insurer pays on a claim. Farela is not a patient-facing service and does not give clinical advice.
How these guides are written
- They come from claims we work on for independent dietitians: the rejections, denials and payer rules we actually run into.
- Coding and coverage facts cite a primary source (CMS, the ICD-10-CM guidelines, X12, the payer's own policy, USPSTF or the Academy) and carry the date they were checked.
- Where payers differ, we say so and tell you how to verify the member's benefits, instead of guessing.
- We never publish patient information. Examples are invented.
- They cover billing and practice administration, not clinical nutrition care.
Found something out of date? Payer policies change often, and we update pages when they do.
